For over a century, Brucemore’s landscape has served as a living record, showcasing the history of the estate and the work of famed landscape architect Ossian Cole Simonds who designed much of the estate’s gardens and landscape between 1910-1930. The August 10, 2020 derecho that brought 130 mph winds to Eastern Iowa dealt a significant blow to the character of the landscape, causing the loss of hundreds of trees and damaging historic features and buildings. Despite the devastation, efforts have been underway since immediately following the storm to recover. A community of donors to Pride & Preservation and volunteers have provided critical support.
During this virtual presentation, Brucemore’s CEO David Janssen and Principal and Founder of S.LA / Seelman Landscape Architecture Brett Seelman will give a behind-the-scenes look at the thoughtful consideration and planning efforts towards restoration that are underway.
